Singapore – Bangkok, Thailand, 28th April 2021 – Chor Meng, Tan, Senior Director and General Manager at Wiley Education Asia, presented at the SEAMEO Congress 2021 for Education, Science and Culture in Southeast Asia. The two-day virtual summit hosted by Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) together with the Ministry of Education of Thailand, and Ministry of Education of Malaysia brings together diverse education actors and stakeholders representing the governments of SEAMEO Member Countries as well as public and private educational institutions and agencies.

The virtual summit was opened by H E Dr Radzi Jidin, Senior Minister of Education, Malaysia & SEAMEO Council President, H E Ms Treenuch Thienthong, Minister of Education, Thailand and Dr Ethel Agnes Pascua-Valenzuela, Director, SEAMEO Secretariat.

The plenary theme was “Reimagining People Transformation Towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. The session was opened by Dr Stefania Giannini, Assistant Director-General for Education, UNESCO Headquarters, France accompanied by six panelists with rich portfolios and moderated by Ms Duriya Amatavivat, Senior Expert on International Cooperation, Ministry of Education, Thailand.

"Achieving sustainability and equity in education for all starts with the belief that it is not only a universal right but also possible if we all take shared responsibility." – Chor Meng

At his panel presentation, Chor Meng highlighted that there is significant inequality in access to learning opportunities which SDGs can address to promote inclusiveness.

The key unmet learning needs highlighted are:

New demand for future of work due to widening skills gap from digitalisation and innovation

Growing awareness of sustainable development agendas by businesses

The keynote further outlined key market fundamentals, trends, and recommendations.
