Sibylle Martiné

Please introduce yourself

My name is Sibylle Martiné, and I started at Verlag Chemie 1979 as an apprentice. After a few years selling advertisements for the Wiley-VCH Journals I moved to the Sales Department. First as an assistant later as Head of Relationship Marketing, also responsible for Customer Service. After a sidestep as Marketing and Sales Director for WileyInterScience to develop the Internet Portal www.pro-physik.de I returned to Sales as Trade Sales Director.

Why did you choose to work in academic publishing?

When I looked for a job after school a friend of mine started at Verlag Chemie and told me about how interesting her new job was – so I sent an application – I have never regretted it.
The alternative was to train as a bank clerk – boring I assumed.

What was your most remarkable situation or exciting experience during this time? (For long-time employees, in addition: How has working at Wiley-VCH changed over time?)

There were a lot. But the most remarkable was the development from a small publishing house, owned from a nonprofit orientated society to becoming part of a global operating company

What are you most looking forward to in this anniversary year?

To discover the creativity from all my colleges to celebrate this event
