1. Expects Data sharing: We are committed to facilitating faster and more effective research discovery by enabling the reproducibility and verification of data, methodology and reporting standards. Our revised data sharing and citation policies (updated November 2018) reflect our researcher-centric approach to asking for data statements and data citations in every article, by providing standard templates to make facilitation easier. Read our preprint to find out how our journals are supporting this shift towards openness.

Watch this video to learn why we want to encourage data sharing.

2. Improving the research process: In recognition of the significance of data as an output of research effort, we have endorsed the FORCE11 Data Citation Principles. Our journals, including open access journals, now require that authors refer to the data at the relevant place in their manuscript and provide a formal citation in their reference list in the same way as article, book, and web citations.

3. Welcoming preprint submissions: We believe that in communities where non-commercial preprint servers exist, journals should allow for the submission of manuscripts which have already been made available on such a server. Allowing submission does not, of course, guarantee that an article will be sent out for review; it simply reflects a belief that availability on a preprint server should not be a disqualifier for submission.

With that, our new preprint policy for open access journals states: “[Journal] will consider for review articles previously available as preprints on non-commercial servers such as ArXiv, bioRxiv, psyArXiv, SocArXiv, engrXiv, etc. Authors are requested to update any pre-publication versions with a link to the final published article. Authors may also post the final published version of the article immediately after publication.”
 4. Enabling content distribution: Powered by ReadCube technology, Wiley Content Sharing enables authors and subscribers to generate links that provide access to free-to-read full-text articles. These links can be used over social media, scholarly collaboration networks and email.

5. Offering increased publication options: A number of our open access journals are supported by a network of authoritative journals and societies that participate in our open access Manuscript Transfer Program, which refers articles of suitable quality and offers authors the option to have their paper, with any peer review reports, automatically transferred to a designated journal.

Participating journals include Health Science Reports, a fully open access journal for rapid dissemination of research across the full spectrum of biomedical and clinical sciences.

6. Creating greater author collaboration opportunities: We have invested in technology and partnerships to offer online and collaborative authoring tools that enable a streamlined and simplified writing process.  Whether you need a solution for importing reference libraries, real-time collaboration with co-authors, or importing and exporting in different formats and markup language, authoring tools help manage the writing process so you can focus on creating impactful content.

7. Continuing a commitment to Open Access: We have over 100 fully open access journals and 1500+ hybrid journals (OnlineOpen). Our program has published in excess of 39784 OnlineOpen and 34000 open access articles since they were launched, across 127 subject areas.

8. Maintaining role as leading society publishing publisher: 1,236 Wiley journals were included in the 2019 Clarivate Analytics’ Journal Citation Reports (JCR), 718 were published on behalf of societies and 63% of these saw an increase in their Impact Factors – further solidifying Wiley’s position as the world’s leading society publishing partner.

9.Publishing impact: Wiley journals ranked #1 in 26 categories across 22 titles and achieved 320 top 10 category rankings.

10. Growing impact: Wiley dominates in several important fields. In Limnology, Andrology and Dermatology, for example, Wiley published more than 40% of the papers. In Physics, Condensed Matter 43% of Impact Factor cites were to a Wiley journal and 4 of the top 10 titles were published by Wiley. Even more impressive, Wiley netted 6 of the top 10 titles in both Biodiversity Conservation and Ecology.

Impact Factors are an important measurement for a journal and Wiley uses them alongside a variety of other journal and article level metrics. Wiley will continue to invest in journal performance insights to enable the communities we support.
