RACHEL CARRILLO SYRJA, M.Ed., [Pomona, CA] is a Professional Development Associate with The Leadership and Learning Center. A native Spanish speaker, Syrja was raised in a bilingual household in east Los Angeles county.   For ten years she worked as an elementary teacher and has more recently begun working an educational consultant. She specializes in instruction for English language learners and is an active teacher trainer and presenter at conferences, including ASCD.
