Description
This book offers an introduction to applications of fuzzy system theory to selected areas of electric power engineering. It presents theoretical background material from a practical point of view and then explores a number of applications of fuzzy systems. Most recently, there has been a tremendous surge in research and application articles on this subject. Until now though, there have been no books that put together a practical guide to the fundamentals and applications aspects. Electric Power Applications of Fuzzy Systems presents, under one cover, original contributions by authors who have pioneered in the application of fuzzy system theory to the electric power engineering field. Each chapter contains both an introduction to and a state-of-the-art review of each application area.
About the Author
About the Editor Mohamed E. El-Hawary has been Professor and Associate Dean of Engineering at DalTech of Dalhousie University (formerly the Technical University of Nova Scotia) since 1981. He has written more than 150 technical papers, mainly in power system engineering, and is an author of three textbooks: Power Systems Analysis, Principles of Electric Machines, and Control System Engineering. He is also coauthor of two research monographs on economic operations of power systems. Dr. El-Hawary chairs the IEEE Power Engineering Society Operating Economics Subcommittee, Life Long Learning Subcommittee, and Awards and Recognitions of the System Operations and Dynamic Performance Committee. He is associate editor of Electric Machines and Power Systems and the International Journal of Electric Energy and Power Systems. Dr. El-Hawary is also a member of the Board of IEEE Press and IEEE Awards Board and serves as editor of the IEEE Press Understanding Science and Technology Series.
