Description

Career Choice and Development
4th Edition

The fourth edition of Career Choice and Development brings together the most current ideas of the recognized authorities in the field of career development. This classic best-seller has been thoroughly revised and expanded to include the most influential theories of career choice and development. In addition it contains up-to-date information regarding the application of these theories to counseling practice.

This edition contains a wide range of career development theories that explore how people develop certain traits, personalities, and self-precepts, and how these developments influence career decision making. This information will challenge teachers, researchers, and those involved in fostering career development to reexamine their assumptions and practices.

In twelve original chapters the expert contributors explore a broad range of career development topics, including insights on vocational behavior, an information process approach to problem solving and decision making, the role of work values and cultural values, postmodern career development, and much more. This edition puts particular focus on multicultural and mulitgenerational issues, and each chapter contains new and illustrative case studies. The book also describes how to tailor this knowledge to the particular needs of clients from varied backgrounds, stages of life, and occupational levels.

Career Choice and Development is a practical guide for administrators and managers who oversee career development programs and for practitioners who provide direct career counseling and planning services. The book is also a valuable tool for psychologists, sociologists, and organizational development specialists who study and teach career development.
