In this two volume set, Dr. Herbert Sixta, head of the cellulose and viscose research department at Lenzing AG in Austria, has brought together a team of authors to produce the first comprehensive handbook on the market. Alongside the traditional aspects of pulping processes, pulp used in industry and paper pulps, this book describes all pulping processes used for paper and board manufacturing as well as waste liquor treatment, pulp bleaching and environmental aspects, while also covering pulp properties and applications.

From the content:

- Chemical Pulp
- Mechanical Pulp
- Recovered Paper and Recycled Fibers
- Analytical Characterization of Pulps

This handbook is essential reading for all chemists and engineers in the paper and pulp industry.
About the Author
Dr. Herbert Sixta studied chemistry at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, and obtained the PhD in 1982 with his work on the interaction of carbon dioxide, hydrogen and saturated hydrocarbons with Pt-, Ru-, Cu- and Ru/Cu-catalysts. He then moved to Lenzing AG, a leading company for the production of regenerated cellulose fibers, where he built up a research department mainly focused on pulp chemistry and technology (1987). After his habilitation in 1995 at the Technical University of Graz, Austria, he has been giving lectures on cellulose chemistry, pulping technology and chemistry at the universities of Graz, Linz and Vienna. At present, the scientific activities of Herbert Sixta are focused on the improvements of pulping technologies for the production of dissolving pulps including the recovery of value-added by-products derived from pulping and purification processes.
