Description

A comprehensive overview of nanocomposites and the effects of nanocomposite formation on fire retardant systems

Flame Retardant Polymer Nanocomposites draws extensively from current work and research in the field to provide a detailed look at polymer nanocomposites for flame retardancy applications. It covers both nanocomposite fundamentals, including theory, design, synthesis, and characterization, and polymer flam-mability fundamentals, emphasizing the effects of nanocomposites on flammability. With chapters written by prominent scientists in the specific area, this authoritative reference: ?

  • Contains practical examples from literature, patents, and existing commercial products

  • Includes detailed experimental procedures that highlight the necessary steps for accurate nanocomposite research

  • Serves as an authoritative reference for interpreting existing work or as a valuable resource for those designing new work and research

  • Features extensive cross-referencing throughout

  • Provides a preview of the future in the field, with chapters on potential applications of nanocomposites for flame retardancy and practical issues and future trends in research

This is an up-to-date, consolidated reference on polymer nanocomposite flammability for researchers in academia, government, and industry, as well as other scientists interested in polymer science, material science, chemistry, fire safety engineering, nanotechnology, and analytical science.

About the Author
Alexander B. Morgan, PhD, is a Senior Research Scientist and group leader for the Advanced Polymers Group at the University of Dayton Research Institute. Dr. Morgan has worked for over eleven years in the field of flame retardancy and has focused on flame retardant nanocomposites for the past seven years. He previously held positions at Dow Chemical as a research chemist and was a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Charles A. Wilkie, PhD, is the Pfletschinger-Habermann Professor of Chemistry at Marquette University. Dr. Wilkie has worked for almost thirty years in fire retardancy, focusing on nanocomposites the past seven years. He is Associate Editor of Polymers for Advanced Technologies and on the editorial boards of Thermochimica Acta and Polymer Degradation and Stability.
